Sister Maria Bravo, a member of the Sisters of St. Dorothy, entered eternal life on January 23, 2026, after dedicating herself faithfully to religious life.
Sr. Maria was born on March 27, 1939, in Povoaçao, St. Miguel, Azores, Portugal to Tobias and Gloria Bravo. Her parents and her sister, Noemia Cabral, preceded her in death. She is survived by her brothers, Joao Bravo (Adelina), Jose Bravo (Graziela) and sisters, Rosa Amaral and Teresa (Roberto) Canoy, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews and her religious community.
Sr. Maria responded generously to God’s call, entered the Sisters of St. Dorothy on September 8, 1967, in Taunton, MA, and made her Perpetual Profession on August 21, 1977. She lived her vocation with devotion, humility, and love. Her commitment was sincere, and her spirit left a lasting impression on those who knew her. Sr. Maria ministered in parishes and schools in Taunton and New Bedford, MA and in Providence, Bristol and Warren, Rhode Island.
Sister Maria was known for her prayerful nature, kindness, and willingness to serve wherever she was needed. She embraced community life with joy and lived the Gospel through her daily actions.
The Sisters of St. Dorothy along with Sr. Maria’s family would like to thank the Staff at Dawn Hill in Bristol and the Hope Health Hospice for their dedicated care to Sr. Maria.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 31, 9 – 9:45AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
